Michael T. Moe, CFA is our Chief Investment Officer and Portfolio Manager. He ran the growth equity research and strategy teams at Montgomery Securities and Merrill Lynch and, more recently, co-founded and served as CEO and Chairman of ThinkEquity Partners. Michael’s investment insights are routinely solicited by everyone from CNBC to Congress to Presidential Advisory Committees. And his book, Finding the Next Starbucks, has gone through three printings in five languages. Michael is recognized as one of the best and brightest investors on the Street. But don’t take our word for it – just ask Institutional Investor (they named Michael to their “All American” research team), Business Week (they called him “one of the best stock pickers in the country”), or The Wall Street Journal (they awarded him “Best on the Street”). Michael is a member of the New York Society of Security Analysts, the CFA Society of San Francisco, and is a past advisor for the Center for Innovation. He serves on the Advisory Board of Institutional Venture Partners (IVP), is a member of the Board of Directors of the Center for Education Reform, and sits on the National Advisory Board for Community in Schools. Michael is also on the Board of Directors of SharesPost, an alternative stock market for private, emerging companies, as well as the Board of Advisors for the Venture Capital~Private Equity Roundtable. And he is Chairman of EMG—The entrepreneur's agent™, a new kind of Venture Capital Operating Company providing capital, knowledge, and talent for emerging growth companies. He served on the National Finance Committee for John McCain’s Presidential Campaign, and was a policy advisor. Michael also serves on the Board of Directors for the National Football Foundation/College Football Hall of Fame. He received his BA in Political Science and Economics from the University of Minnesota.

Stephen D. Bard, CFA is our Chief Operating Officer. Steve brings more than 20 years of investment and operational expertise to NeXt. Most recently he served as COO and Board Member at Fuller & Thaler Asset Management, an institutional investment firm where he built out and managed the firm’s non-investment team and infrastructure. Before that he ran the West Coast for Fidelity Management Trust Company (now Pyramis Global Advisors) and was a managing consultant at Hewitt Associates. Steve serves as a Trustee for the Crystal Springs Uplands School and is a Board Member of the CFA Society of San Francisco, where he chairs the Investment Committee. He received his BS from Duke University and his MBA from the University of California, Berkeley. Steve and Michael have known each other since 1995.

Luben Pampoulov is our Co-Portfolio Manager. He has worked with Michael since 2006 as an analyst and co-portfolio manager at ThinkEquity Partners. Together, they have managed money and delivered compelling investment results. Further, they’ve been sharing their research and investment ideas with many of you each week at www.nextupresearch.com. Born in Bulgaria and raised there and in Austria, Luben offers unique perspective on some of the world’s most promising emerging and frontier economies. Luben earned his BA in International Economics and Management from the University of California at Los Angeles and he is a Series 7 Registered Representative. He played professional tennis on the ATP Tour, was national champion in Austria and Bulgaria, and led UCLA as its captain and number one player to win the NCAA Championship in 2005.
